Requiem. These landscape photographs were taken
entirely in Nebraska, mostly in the 1970s and 80s, although a
couple are as recent as 2004. I put them together in a series
that I called "Requiem" in 2007. A requiem, of course, is a mass
for the dead. I use the term loosely, with no reference to its
religious (Catholic) meaning, but yet retaining its sense of
something lost. More specifically, I'm thinking of the term in
the context of global climate change and the long-range effect
that will have on the land. You may notice that the sequence of
images in this series goes from water to fire.
